Common Questions

How is a process group different from individual therapy?+

In individual therapy, you meet one-on-one with a therapist. In a process group, you work alongside a small group of peers, guided by two co-facilitators. The group setting adds something individual therapy cannot fully replicate: the experience of being understood by others who are navigating similar seasons of life.

I’m already seeing an individual therapist. Can I still join?+

Yes, and in many cases it works really well. Group therapy complements individual therapy rather than replacing it. Many members find that the group experience gives them new material to bring into their one-on-one sessions. If you are working with another therapist, we just ask that you let them know about the group.

What do I need to join an online session?+

All you need is a private space, a stable internet connection, and a device with a camera and microphone. We use Zoom for all sessions, and you will receive a secure link ahead of each meeting.

What if I’m hesitant to talk in a group?+

This is one of the most common concerns we hear, and it is completely understandable. Dr. Hayden-Wade and Christine create a space where no one is ever pressured to share before they are ready. Many members who benefit most from the group start out simply listening. Most find that they open up more naturally over the first few sessions.

Does insurance cover Connection Circle?+

Some insurance may be accepted for this group — please call our office at (760) 635-3310 ext. 1 for details. If you prefer to pay out-of-pocket, the session rate is $75. We also recommend calling the member services number on your insurance card to confirm your specific mental health benefits before enrolling.

How do I know if I’m ready for group therapy?+

If you are navigating a life transition, feeling anxious, low, isolated, or simply craving deeper connection, Connection Circle is worth exploring. The free 15-minute consultation with our team is the best way to find out. We will ask a few questions about what you’re going through and give you an honest answer about whether this group is a good fit.

Is what I share in the group confidential?+

Yes. Confidentiality is a foundational agreement in the group — what’s shared stays within the group, with the same limits that apply in individual therapy, such as safety concerns.

      Online Group Therapy for Adults

Finding a warm, consistent community as an adult can feel harder than it should. At The Halliday Center, Connection Circle offers a twice-monthly online therapy group for adults ages 35 to 70 across San Diego, Encinitas, and all of California, co-facilitated by Dr. Helen Hayden-Wade and Christine Mason, MA.

Group therapy is a uniquely powerful format for adults navigating life transitions, anxiety, depression, low self-worth, or isolation. As the American Psychological Association has noted, group formats can be as effective as individual therapy for many concerns, while also offering peer support that one-on-one sessions don’t provide. Unlike one-on-one counseling, the group setting allows members to realize they are not alone in what they are feeling. Hearing others share similar struggles, whether it’s a career change, a relationship shift, or simply the weight of everyday life, can be profoundly normalizing.

Sessions blend open, process-oriented dialogue with structured skill-building in communication, self-compassion, and mindfulness. Meeting twice a month on Zoom, members build genuine trust with one another and with their facilitators over time, creating a foundation for lasting emotional growth.
